We warmly invite you to join us for a day trip to Meißen!
On Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, we’ll stroll through the old town together, sketch, chat, and enjoy a relaxed and creative time.
What is Urban Sketching?
Urban Sketching means drawing on location, outdoors in the city, capturing the world around us – whether it’s a building, a street scene, or a small detail. It’s not about perfect art, but about preserving the impression and feeling of the moment.
Everyone is welcome!
No matter if you’re just starting or have already filled many sketchbooks – you can draw with whatever you like: pens, watercolors, fineliners, colored pencils – everything is allowed and welcome.

Organizational Details:
- When? Saturday, May 3rd, 2025
- Meeting Point: Dresden Main Station, large info board
- Meeting Time: 10:00 AM / Departure: 10:30 AM
- How? By S-Bahn to Meißen
- Arrival at "Meißen Altstadt" (S-Bahn station)
- For those who want to travel directly to Meißen: Simply come to one of the sketching stations described further down on this page.
- Return: In the afternoon, individually or together
- Return from "Meißen" (S-Bahn station) – near the third sketching location.
- Registration: Please register via the registration button on this page for better planning
- Participation: Free of charge, but each participant is responsible for their own S-Bahn ticket. Food and drinks (e.g., coffee or restaurant visit in Meißen) are at your own expense.
- What to Bring: Sketchbook, pens (or any other drawing/painting materials of your choice), S-Bahn ticket, comfortable clothes, sunscreen, water, possibly snacks, sitting mat or folding chair.
What is a SketchWalk?
A SketchWalk is a group walk with several stops for sketching. We suggest three stations in Meißen – this gives a little structure and helps to meet up again along the way.
Everything is voluntary!
You can sketch at all three stations or just one – you can stay longer at one spot or casually wander through the city. It’s not about "getting everything done," but about having a good time with sketches, the city, and great people.
Our Sketching Stations in Meißen

We’ll start here with a fantastic view of the cathedral, Albrechtsburg Castle, and the rooftops of the city. Plenty of space, great perspectives, and a calm atmosphere to relax and begin sketching. - 2st Station – Market Square🕐 1:30 PM – 2:30 PMDomplatz, Meißen - Geo-Link
The market square offers a wealth of sketching subjects – from historic buildings to cozy cafés and the vibrant city life.
At the historic market square, we’ll sketch the impressive architecture, the town hall façade, the colorful hustle and bustle, and small details all around the square. To wrap up the day, we’ll cross to the other side of the Elbe and head to the Beach Bar & Biergarten Meißen – with a stunning view of Albrechtsburg Castle, the cathedral, and the river. It's a relaxed spot for sketching, chatting, or simply unwinding.
We’ll take a group photo here to celebrate the day.
Optional: shared food and drinks in the beer garden.
Return trip: If you’d like, you can head home easily from the nearby “Meißen” S-Bahn station – no need to walk all the way back over the bridge.

Yes! Everyone is welcome! Whether you're an experienced Urban Sketcher or just starting with drawing – anyone can join and enjoy the day. The meet-up is open to all who enjoy drawing, painting, and discovering Meißen.
Yes! Participation is free! There’s no fee to join, but everyone covers their own travel costs (e.g. S-Bahn ticket). If you’d like to join us for lunch at the restaurant, you’ll also pay for your own food and drinks — but that’s totally optional.
Absolutely! The Sketch Walk is open to everyone, regardless of your drawing experience or skill level. Whether you're just starting out or have more experience – everyone is welcome. It's all about having fun, experimenting, and being creative together. So don't worry, everyone can join!
For our SketchWalk, all materials are allowed! Whether you prefer to work with pencil, fineliner, watercolor, acrylic paint, or digital tools – you are completely free to choose. The goal is to be creative and have fun drawing, no matter which materials you feel most comfortable with.
For the Sketch Walk, you can bring any materials you need for drawing or painting. Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and dress according to the weather – especially remember sunscreen if it’s sunny! A sitting mat or a folding chair can be very helpful to make yourself comfortable while drawing. Also, don’t forget to bring enough water and possibly snacks to stay energized during the walk!
Yes, you can definitely come directly to Meißen if it's more convenient for you and you don't want to travel with the group. You can simply join one of the sketching stations you choose. The exact locations can be found in the "Our Sketching Stations in Meißen" section further up the page.
The return trip will depend on how much time we still need. We’ll most likely head back between 5:00 and 6:00 PM, but of course, everything is flexible. You’re welcome to leave earlier or later – whatever works best for you.
